THOUGHTS OR QUOTES
One of my favorite books to read aloud to my students was If You Were a Writer by Joan Lowery Nixon. The main character learns by watching and listening to her mother, a writer, who teaches the child to discover ideas, use details that suggest pictures, and create a
story. I connected with this book. I could have crafted If You Were a Teacher. I watched and listened to my mother, a
teacher, and became one myself. I was also delighted to watch, listen, and learn from Joan Lowery Nixon when she
spoke at a writing conference in
Houston.
